Body on a Pedestal, aka BOAP, is not about pole dancing, but we hope to achieve that level of badassery someday.
The Inspiration
I had originally planned to create a style blog, but after reading Dove’s study on the effects of Body Image on women, I felt compelled to expand the blog’s scope.
The truth is, I’ve had my fair share of body-shaming ever since I was a kid, coupled with a decade of experience in not meeting society’s ideal beauty standards. And skilled in the art of ignoring opportunities or not pursuing certain goals because “I just don’t look the part”. What sort of job could one get with a resume like that?
On a more serious note, I believe that Dove’s study resonated with me so deeply because I saw myself in those statistics. And it hurt. More importantly, it made me realize that I didn’t want to wake up one day regretting all the chances that I didn’t take, adventures I refused to embark on… all because I was too afraid to put my “less than perfect” self out there.
What BOAP’s really about
The general advice for most self-esteem-related woes is simply to “love yourself”. Great! But what do you do if you’re just not that into yourself, yet? How exactly does one go about falling in love (and staying in love) with themselves, or building up their self-confidence? How can you learn to appreciate YOU, in all your unique glory?
These are some of the questions that BOAP seeks to answer, albeit in an exploratory, easygoing manner. If you are also embarking on that self-love marathon, then I invite you to join me in discovering the possible ways to uplift yourself – mentally, physically, intellectually, and of course, gastronomically.
We’ll dabble into self-care, “body talk” ideologies, nutrition, inspiring resources – essentially, anything that could help you learn to put your Body on Pedestal.
