Why we Celebrate Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8th to recognize and honor women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements throughout history.
It is also a day to raise awareness about the ongoing fight for gender equality and to mobilize people around the world to take action to address issues such as violence against women, unequal pay, and lack of access to education and healthcare.
Music has always been a powerful tool for inspiring social change, among other things. So in honor of the upcoming International Women’s day, I’ve put together a collection of empowering songs celebrating the strength, beauty & resilience of women.
“Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women” – Maya Angelou
“Respect” by Aretha Franklin – Starting off with the Queen of Soul! This classic song became an anthem for women’s rights and empowerment. The lyrics encourage respect and recognition for the hard work and contributions of women.
“Superwoman” by Alicia Keys – This song is an ode to the strength and resilience of women, who are often tasked with juggling multiple roles and responsibilities. Women indeed are capable of doing whatever they set their minds on.
